I am an entrepreneur, creating this online store in order to promote gold business across Melanesia.
Melanesian islands are popular for gold, many foreign companies are investing in our ancestral lands, but we Melanesian peoples are left empty-handed, as if we have no right to own and trade gold, primarily and most importantly, among ourselves. Gold is regarded as commodity to be transported to foreign companies. That is totally wrong. We, the Backs in the South Pacific should be owning and trading gold among ourselves.
Many indigenous peoples around the world, in particular some tribes in Indonesia and popularly tries in India trade and wear gold as their normal ornaments in their bodies. They even pay bride price with gold. This is very normal. When it comes to Melanesia, this is not normal.
- Those wearing golden earrings are scared of being robbed or even killed.
- Those holding gold mostly think about selling the gold to Chinese people at gold stores. They never ever thought about buying smelters and saving it themselves at their homes.
- Those holding gold are not allowed by government because gold is the most legalized, the most legally organised commodity. Why do the governments in Melanesia do this? Primarily it is because they don’t want us, the peoples to own gold and to become rich.
If, and again, if, the Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Tari-Pori MP, Honourable James Marape wants his country Papua New Guinea to become the first black richest country in the world, then what he should do is to first of all allow common people in villages, islands and towns to own gold, wear gold, trade gold, and feel okay about it.
We Melanesians should be confident, that gold that God has placed on our Islands are not for sale. They are here not for foreigners to sign contracts and take them away. These peoples and countries have been given the same, and even more gold than us in Melanesia. Therefore, we should be the one mining the gold, and trading the gold, among ourselves. May our ancestors bless this move, to make Melanesian islands and peoples rich and prosperous again, as we were before, as told in stories of the past.
